Tips for a Safe Pregnancy
Pregnancy is a joyous and overwhelming time in a woman’s life. A woman’s body goes through changes beginning at the moment of conception until she delivers the baby. During the pregnancy, women worry about the safety of their unborn babies. Follow a few safety tips to ensure a healthy pregnancy.
Avoid Litter Boxes
Pregnant women should avoid changing cat litter. Cat feces carry parasites that cause toxoplasmosis. Changing a box stirs up the dust from the litter and expectant moms can breathe this dust in and inhale parasites. These parasites can cause miscarriages and birth defects.
Maintain A Normal Body Temperature
During pregnancy a woman’s temperature should always remain below 102 degrees. If your temperature rises above 102 degrees, damage can occur to the unborn baby because a fetus is unable to regulate his body temperature to cool down. Limit the length of hot showers and hot baths.
Avoid hot tubs, steam rooms, and saunas until the baby is born because these things can raise your body temperature in a matter of minutes.
Avoid High-Impact Exercises and Sports
Performing light exercises is recommended during pregnancy. Exercise keeps a pregnant woman fit and helps maintain weight. Walking, swimming, and light weight training can be done. It’s important, however, that pregnant women not lift anything heavier than 25 to 30 pounds.
Avoid high-impact exercises and sports such as running, bicycling, or basketball. Too much jiggling or falls can cause miscarriage or internal bleeding by causing the placenta to erupt.
