Kegel Exercises for Pregnancy
While most women know about the importance of exercise during pregnancy, there are certain exercises you can do without leaving your seat. These exercises are designed to strengthen the muscles on the pelvic floor, positively aiding the birthing process.
Strengthen Muscles with Kegels
Kegel exercises have multiple benefits. They strengthen the rectum, the urethra, the bladder, and the uterus. They also strengthen the walls of the vagina, which can make post-pregnancy sex a smoother process.
Push During Labor
Kegel exercises also make the muscles of the pelvic floor much stronger. Pushing is a critical part of vaginal childbirth, and the contractions involved in Kegels strengthen the muscles necessary for pushing. This can speed childbirth and even reduce the amount of pain involved in pushing and contractions for some women.
Perform Kegels Often
If you do no other exercise during your pregnancy, be sure to do Kegels as often as you can stand to. These exercises are very easy to do, and you won’t even break a sweat. To perform them, contract the muscles that you would normally use to cease your urine flow. Hold them for a few seconds, then release.
