How to Overcome Self-Imposed Obstacles

The self-imposed obstacles we create when we’re working toward a dream or a goal can be harmful. Whether it’s a lack of confidence, negative thinking or low self-esteem, overcoming our fears and doubts can be difficult. Read on to find out how you can overcome your self-imposed obstacles so that you can reach your goals and have confidence along the way.

6 Steps to Overcome Self-Imposed Obstacles

1. Write down your short-term and long-term goals and dreams.

Include any personal, career and relationship goals and dreams that you may have, no matter how out of reach they may seem.

2. Identify the obstacles that you see in your path.

Is it fear of failure or rejection that’s been stopping you from accomplishing your goals, or is it negative thinking or low self esteem?

3. Examine these self-imposed obstacles.

Ask yourself if these obstacles are rational or simply self-created fears.

4. Take Control

Take control of your thoughts and remember that you alone have created these obstacles, so only you have the power to take them away.

5. Focus on the positive.

On the paper where you listed your goals and dreams, make a list of all of the reasons why you can accomplish them. Mentally delete all of the negative thoughts that you’ve focused on in the past in relation to your goals.

6. Goal Sheet

Keep your goal sheet handy and read it anytime you find yourself unable to move forward towards your dreams because of all of the negative thoughts and fears that are weighing you down.
